Music Compositions and Drafts

Lee Sekaquaptewa wouldn't say he is a talented musician or composer, but he does enjoy playing piano and writing music. Although he usually writes for piano, he has tried his hand at songwriting. He doesn't have any posted with himself singing, but his music is up for the public listening at soundcloud.com

This is music Lee has first started playing with in 2009. This is when he lived in Toppenish, WA.

Lonely Heart Dying in Toppenish is the music I first started experimenting with. It's music where I was translating my thoughts and emotions into sound. I wouldn't necessarily call it great, but I do think that it was very interesting start. I had no formal training and I feel that it shows and that's great.

This next collection or block of music is music created from 2010-present. He continues to write music using software on his computer. He does a fair job of writing, but often gets stuck and lets it sit on his piano and comes back to it every so often.

Waiting on You
This album is for specific people mostly. January 29th is one of my best friends' birthday. I couldn't sleep one day and heard music. So with an acquired music program I thought would be good for classes I opened up and started writing. This particular friend means a lot to me and it's their little brother's birthday. It was only a few measures long when my teacher thought it would be good to elaborate on. So I worked on it a few months and got stuck. The third is for a bassoon player I met online. He remains a friend and we often get disconnected, but still we're friends. The songs that mean the most to me on here are August 27th and September 17th. They are in memoriam of my grandmother, teacher, and someone I will continue to greatly miss.  Made year after he passing. Like Lonely Heart, it's mostly a clear example of me translating what i was feeling at a given time.

Lee was once gifted an iPad from his older brother and he enjoys playing with the garageband app by Apple. This next setlist is what he has created from it. Most of it music for one of his highly artistic friends whom asked him to create things using soundbites and what him outside from, in my opinion, his traditional piano and somber music.

One of the most influential people who perhaps could be to blame or praised for helping me start taking my art seriously is a dear friend named Shayla. She introduced me to this band called The Avalanches. She asked me to try to create music like them. What stuck out to me the most from the one song she shared was how "yellow" it felt. So using both our interests in art I tried to create music from the primary and secondary colors but yellow. I got lost along the way and missed out on orange. but overall i feel that it was a nice way of creating music. It was a great learning experience and another stepping stone.

Walking on Eggshells. The start of a collaboration with other artists. Most notably Lucas Salazar and Carmen Selam. The foundation for the Green Lights. Which is the new set list for 2014 already started off with three tracks for the year. Hopefully the momentum continues and music continues being created. It's a gift and I should celebrate it by using it. I love music. Not all, sadly, but do love it.
